If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
We received a question about a discussion topic in someone’s class, about Christianity and tolerance. Below are just a couple of points that I think are key to the discussion of tolerance from a biblical standpoint.
My question has to do with James 1:5-7. Particularly James 1:6-7. I should have brought this up last Sunday, but I wanted to think about it some more on my own. Whaddya know–still have the same questions
So James says when we ask for something from God (wisdom, patience, peace, healing, etc), we have to fully believe without doubt.
Why is it important for me to know Jesus’s Hebrew name? It’s not the first name that comes to mind when I think of Him
I wouldn’t say it is necessarily important, other than when you love someone you tend to want to know as much about them as possible.
A friend asked me a question about the appearance of evil in a Christian’s life… below is a generalized response…
We absolutely have liberty in Jesus. Paul talks about all things being lawful, but not all things are helpful or edifying(1 Cor 10:23).
Several weeks ago I read a warning in the study guide about using the canopy theory argument in any type of dogmatic way. I was asked, after that class, about Genesis 1:6-8.
Genesis 2:16-17 says..
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
I was asked this Sunday why we don’t take that phrase ‘you shall surely die’ literally but we take the rest of the Genesis account literally.
I wanted to attempt to explain in short what the Bible teaches.
God created everything.
The bad news:
All mankind, starting with Adam, has chosen to disobey God’s laws, which has separated us from fellowship with our Creator; in Biblical terms we’re dead(spiritually).
