it is appointed a man to die…
I don’t know about other people, but the Lord has always kept in my mind the fragility and temporal nature of life here. The below verse is a pointed reminder for all of us.
Hebrews 9:27(NKJV)
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
We only get a few short years in this life, and this verse reminds me to use it for the purpose it was given to me. I would like to be able to look back over my life, when I die, and be able to honestly say I’ve done the below:
I lived my life surrendered to Jesus.(below are just some extensions of this one)
I discipled my wife and lead her closer to the Lord.
I discipled my children and showed them how to live a life surrendered to Jesus and others.
I gave glory to God when He accomplished things through my life.
I honored my parents.
All of this is a massive work in progress, as Jesus continues to conform me into His image. It can be a painful process, but it certainly has its rewards. Without a doubt, I experience more joy when I’m truly living my life for the Lord. But, because of my selfish nature, my willingness to fully serve the Lord is more of an ebb and flow then a steady stream. I thank God that He has grace with me.
I thank God that He reminds me often of my mortality. I pray that He will do the same for you. I pray that He uses that reminder to cause us all to live our lives poured out to Him and not distracted by the things in this world.
Hope this encourages someone…
Lord Bless You,
Joel
