Several weeks ago I read a warning in the study guide about using the canopy theory argument in any type of dogmatic way. I was asked, after that class, about Genesis 1:6-8.

Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

I’m slow in responding to that question.. sorry. I found an article that speaks to that question in depth. I recommend you read it completely.Long story short there are some serious problems with all the canopy theory models that have been formulated so far. There are other suggestions to explain Genesis 1:6-8, but likely we won’t know for sure until we reach Heaven, and by then we probably won’t care. If you are up for some good reading, Dr. Russell Humphreys has an interesting book out with a well developed Cosmological model that is also biblically based. It’s a very interesting book, and answers some common cosmological attacks on the biblical worldview.God Bless,Joel
